Don’t throw it away — pass it on! 💚

The Big Green Move is again happening from today until 11th July 2026

The Big Green Move is a project in collaboration with the accommodation team that encourages students to donate usable items during move-out season. Items will be reused or donated locally as part of our Community Pop Up Shop project, which provides a space for students to swap or buy pre-loved and affordable items while supporting the new Access Fund.

We are working with Open Hands again this year to ensure the purpose of the donations is maximised; all food items will be donated to the food bank, to which we successfully collected and donated 25 kg last year!

Items that are most wanted by our collaborating charity, Open Hands:

Small appliances - kettles, toasters, air fryers
Kitchen items - mugs, glasses, cutlery, utensils, saucepans, frying pans, oven trays
Bedding - clean duvet, pillows, sheets, duvet covers

For student accommodation residents: come and donate your stuff at the reception boxes in both the City and the Village. (Freemans & Oadby)

For everyone else: come and drop your bags at the SU reception in the Percy Gee Building, Monday-Friday between 10-4 pm.

Please note that the event includes a return coach journey from campus to the park.

Join us for the PGR Research Picnic Day! A relaxed morning in the beautiful surroundings of the University of Leicester Botanic Garden. Share your research informally with fellow PhD students and researchers from across colleges, make new connections, and enjoy the sunshine. Light refreshments will be provided!

Venue: Beaumont Hall, Botanic Garden, Stoughton Drive South, Oadby, LE2 2NA (Google map link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/dUCro8RZtjgKYgGv9)

Transport: A FREE University shuttle bus runs from the main campus to Oadby Village, and there is a bus stop right in front of the Beaumont Hall.
