annual members meeting

On Tuesday 1st December the Union held its Annual Members Meeting via Blackboard Collaborate, which invited all students to come along and hear updates about what the Union is doing, as well as be given the opportunity to debate and vote on ideas to be passed as Union Policy.

At the Annual Members Meeting, two proposals were put forward. The first proposal was titled ‘Disinvestment Defence’ and was presented by Rhiannon, a final year English student. Rhiannon’s proposal urged the Students’ Union to stand with UCU and any staff threatened by redundancy to ensure minimum damage, with the suggestion of the SU lobbying the University to prevent redundancies and ensure that student experience and staff welfare is not affected. 62% of attending students voted in favour of this proposal and so it was passed as Union Policy.

The second proposal was titled ‘Support Student Sex Workers’ and was presented by your Students’ Union President, Mia. The proposal called for the Union to provide non-discriminatory support and advice for Student Sex Workers, as well as working together with the University to safeguard Student Sex Workers from stigmatisation within the student and academic communities. 67% of attending students voted in favour of this proposal and so it too was passed as Union Policy.

If you want to get involved with the planning and implementation of either of the proposals mentioned above, and you missed the Students’ Council meeting taking place on Tuesday 8th December at 6pm, please email the Executive Officers team at su-exec@le.ac.uk
