"Cheerleading is an incredibly challenging yet extremely rewarding team sport, which comprises various elements including stunting, tumbling, jumps and dance, and it is rapidly growing in popularity in the UK. Over the past few years, the Leicester Panthers have gone from strength to strength. We are now the team to beat within our divisions after becoming National Champions and Grand Champions and we hope to replicate this success in the upcoming season. We are one of the largest societies on campus and pride ourselves on being very inclusive. It does not matter if you are a cheer veteran, or a complete novice, we welcome everybody of all abilites. Cheerleading is a fantastic way to stay fit whilst at University, and can help increase stamina and flexibility. We are searching for dedicated, hard-working individuals to join our club, and so if you think that is you then please come along to one of our come and try sessions! There could not be a better time to join, as we have just joined the Team Leicester community. Being a Panther has undoubtedly been the highlight of my University experience so far, and I look forward to meeting you and welcoming you into the Panther family!”- Club Captain 18/19
Teams train twice a week, with additional training sessions being held closer to competition and performance dates. Our competitive teams attend two competitions a year, and our varsity team perform at local events such as Clarendon Park Christmas Fair and we show our support to our fellow University of Leicester sports teams by performing at half time in their matches. Our annual Showcase provides an opportunity to show all of our friends and family our routines. We hold a variety of drinking and non-drinking socials. Every Wednesday night we head to LETSDISKO in fancy dress, and members have the option to come with us on tour, which for the past two years has been to Croatia. Cheer Week is held at the end of the year whereby we organise fun activities every day, such as a trip to Water World, Drayton Manor and Megazone Laser Tag. Cheer Awards is held during this week, whereby we celebrate everybody’s hard work throughout the season and the many achievements we have accomplished. Trophies and sashes are awarded to individuals that have stood out throughout the year, as voted for by all members and committee. Additionally, members are offered the chance to put themselves forward for a position on committee which allows students to develop key skills, such as leadership, confidence, organisation and budgeting that will benefit them once they have graduated.
We train in the o2 academy on Tuesday 6-9pm and Thursday 6-9 pm. Please find a list of our teams below:
