What inspired you to become a part-time Officer?
BAME Students make up over 50% of the student population at the University of Leicester and I wanted to ensure that our voices are heard, particularly when it comes to important decisions, like changes to University policy. I also wanted to ensure that the 'Home Away From Home' that the Students' Union promotes, includes spaces that are inclusive and welcoming for BAME Students.
I also had the privilege of being the BAME Officer over the last academic year and I was keen to continue my role, working on various campaigns to improve the BAME Student experience.
What are you priorities for the year?
My priorities for the year are promoting the opportunities available to BAME Students (including academic and work opportunities). I am also placing a huge focus on promoting the achievements and talents of BAME Students on campus, with a particular focus on Black Excellence.
What are your hobbies and interests?
My current hobbies and interests include reading books, going for long walks and very recently, yoga. I am also a seasonal Pan Player; I play Double Seconds for Mangrove Steelband and play in the national Panorama competition every year.
