During your time at University it is quite common to experience something that interferes with your studies. This could be a family problem, financial issue, a health concern, or something else entirely. You may also have a complaint about your academic experience or your wider University experience, or you may be struggling to get your head around the University's regulations. For example, you may need to follow the processes for academic misconduct issues (e.g. plagiarism, collusion, cheating, and non-academic processes).

Our role in providing you academic advice

  1. Listen to you and help you understand your options. We can offer advice on the relevant academic procedures, explain what evidence you might need, and suggest next steps, including other support services that may help.
  2. Review the information you have gathered before you submit it and offer guidance where needed. This may include providing feedback on forms you have completed and helping you make sure your situation is explained clearly. While we can help you present your information as clearly as possible, our feedback will not influence the outcome of your case.
  3. Attend University meetings with you as a companion if requested. While we cannot speak on your behalf or represent you, we can provide emotional support, take notes for you, request breaks if needed, and help ensure the process is being followed fairly.

We recommend that you

  1. Read through our how to guides on the procedure you need to follow, to get a good understanding of the academic process so you can ask us any questions you may have on it. If you’re not sure which procedure you need to follow, contact us on the form below.
  2. Get in touch with us by either filling in the online form, or visiting our Reception Desk in the Percy Gee Building.
  3. Look at our FAQs for common enquires that may be able to help you and have answers to you queries.
