General FAQ

Can I appeal my grade because I want a remark?

Usually, you cannot appeal just because you want your work remarked or feel you deserved a higher grade. This is classed as questioning academic judgment and is not a valid ground for an Academic Appeal. If you are unsure whether you have grounds to appeal, or want advice on what to do next if you are unhappy with your grade, please get in touch with us.

Can I apply for an extension on my assessment?

The University does not offer a general process to request deadline extensions for formal assessments. However, if you are affected by circumstances outside of your control, such as personal issues or illness, you may be able to apply for Mitigating Circumstances or Self Certification. Please get in touch with us for advice on which option may be most suitable for you and whether you will need to provide evidence.

I am not happy with a member of staff or my experience at the University. What can I do?

If something has not met your expectations, including the support or help you expected from a member of staff, you may be able to follow the University’s complaints procedure. We can explain the steps involved and guide you through the process. Please get in touch with us for more information.

What is academic misconduct?

Academic misconduct is any action that goes against the University’s rules on academic integrity. This includes things like plagiarism, collusion, cheating, contract cheating, and misuse of Artificial Intelligence. It is important to avoid academic misconduct and make sure you understand how to reference and research properly. For additional support on good academic practice, you can speak to your personal tutor or module convenor, or access help from the University’s Centre for Academic Achievement.
