We also have some handy tips and tricks for everyday life:

Daily Habits:

There are several things we do on a daily basis that could be changed to better our carbon footprints
For example:

  • Switching off any lights, electronics, plugs or monitors when leaving a room or not in use
  • Ensuring you are separating your waste from your recycling
  • If your only travelling a couple floors, make sure you use the stairs where possible, instead of getting the lift.

Travel:

A great way of reducing your emissions is considering how you are travelling. If its a short journey consider walking or cycling over driving or getting a taxi. Not only is this better for the environment but also your own physical health! If it's too far to walk, check out the local public transport routes. The campus is surrounded by useful bus routes and is a short walk away from Leicester train station.

Diet and Food:

What you eat and your eating habits can also make an impact. Check out the below statistics released by the United Nations:

Consider switching to vegan and vegetarian options once in a while, or ensuring the food your buying follows sustainable methods.

Purchasing:

Research into the companies your buying from and check out how ethical their practises are. Is there a more sustainable option? What are the companies contributions to carbon emissions, and are they actively trying to reduce them? If you know this purchase involves overseas shipping, could you find a more local and/or family-owned store that could supply similar? Starting to be aware of where your shopping is a great first step to being more sustainable.
