The Volunteering Hub can also help you keep a record of your volunteering experiences. Logging your hours and skills will create a very useful resource to look back on when writing applications!

Why log your hours and skills?

  • Annual volunteering hours certificates. Log 25, 50, 100 or 200 hours of volunteering to earn a certificate!
  • Helps you keep a record of your volunteering experiences.
  • A useful resource to look back on when applying for jobs/future activities.
  • Access to a personalised skills record.

What counts as volunteering?

You can log your hours for any time you’ve given to a voluntary activity. This can be inside and outside of the Students’ Union.

If you’re not sure whether you are volunteering or not, see below some examples of different types of volunteering:

It does not count as volunteering if it is a placement required of your course, or if it is for a for-profit organisation.

All charities have a registered charity number which can be found by searching the name of the organisation on the Charity Commission website. You can search here to check that the charity is legitimate.

Not all volunteering will clearly fit into the above examples, so please contact us if you have any questions about whether your opportunity counts as volunteering.
