Response to the O2 Academy Petition

Statement in relation to the petition about the possible closure of the O2 Academy

We’ve seen the petition about the possible closure of the O2 Academy nightclub on campus from December 2026, so we wanted to share some information to keep everyone in the loop.

First, it’s important to know that the two O2 Academy venues on campus aren’t run by the Students’ Union. They’re operated by Academy Music Group, an external company, under an agreement with Leicester Food and Drink (a University-owned subsidiary).

Even though we don’t run the venue, the Students’ Union is actively representing your views. We speak regularly with the University about nightlife and social spaces, and we’re pushing hard to make sure students’ needs are included in any decisions about the venue. This includes strongly advocating for a safe, secure, and regular on‑campus clubbing option, as well as retaining job opportunities for students.

We’ve consistently raised student concerns wherever we can — but we also need your help.
