Support for Students Affected by Current Conflicts
We know that the ongoing crises and unrest happening around the world may be affecting many of our students. If you’re feeling worried, unsafe, or unsure what to do next, please know that we’re thinking of you and that support is here whenever you need it.
Whether you’re currently abroad or here in the UK, and whether you’re dealing with conflict, travel issues, or personal concerns, you’re not alone.
If you’re affected, here are some steps that might help:
• If you are currently abroad and experiencing difficulty returning to the UK, please contact your School or Department to inform them of your situation. They can advise on academic support and help make sure you’re kept up to date about your studies.
• If you’re facing travel disruption or safety concerns, please put your safety first. Follow advice from local authorities and stay in touch with your embassy or consulate if needed. It may also help to check the latest FCDO advice for the country you are in and read guidance on being affected by a crisis abroad.
• If the situation is making it hard to keep up with classes, assessments, or deadlines, please reach out to your School or Programme team as soon as you can. They can talk you through support options, including submitting mitigating circumstances.
• If you need wellbeing support, the University’s student wellbeing services are here for you, and everything you share is confidential. The Students’ Union How we can help Advice page can also help direct students to the appropriate support services.
- If you would like to speak to someone for guidance, you can email the SU Advice team advice@le.ac.uk to book a drop-in appointment, where SU advisers can help direct you to the appropriate support service.
- The Out of Hours support service can be contacted at the University Security number: 0116 252 2888 24/7. Security staff are trained in both physical and mental first aid.
We know situations like this can change quickly, and it’s completely understandable if you’re feeling unsettled or unsure what to do next. If you think you may be affected, or if you just want to talk things through, please reach out, the University is here to support you.
Please take care of yourselves and stay safe.
