Cleo Cornou

I decided to become an Officer as I wanted to have a bigger and positive impact on the student experience here! I can offer students a voice at a higher level and be an approachable point of contact when they want to share ideas or something they want to see happen at the SU. I want to foster community, and that starts with students feeling safe on campus. Specifically, I want to create a report system for sexual assault on campus and in the O2 to make victims feel supported and empowered.

My priorities

Improve the reporting system and ensure it is well-publicised and clearly understood by students.

Ensure students know what making a disclosure means, what support it leads to, and how to access it easily.

Aim to involve O2 security Staff, equipping them to guide students to this system when needed.

Ultimately, if a student experiences sexual violence, they should know exactly where to go and what support is available - without having to conduct intensive research.

Revamp underused areas to create welcoming, social space - not just study zones.

Redesign the SU Square (heart of the SU) to feel more like a hub for connection, not just work.

Maintain the successful SU game room, ideally with support for the E-sports Gaming Society.

Collaborate with the Attenborough Arts Centre to host creative events to bring more students into that space.

The overall goal is boost campus engagement, belong and support for arts students.

Many students find current university accommodation unsatisfactory.

I aim to improve policies and communication in collaboration with the accommodation team.

Some students feel unsafe or unwelcome in their housing, which can affect their experiences, ability to thrive on their environment and ultimately hinder success.

My goal is to create a more supportive, home-like environment.

Progress may be challenging, but I'm committed to starting the conversations to make meaningful change over time.

Continue to build on brilliant achievements of Reed's projects and finalise some of them.

Ongoing attention and continual review of the Food Bank project for potential improvements.

I'll ensure the sexual violence working group is successfully finalised and supports key priorities.

Plan to expand the self-serve station in the library.

Will maintain strong ties with Leicester Food and Drink to support future initiatives.
