Aishwarya Kote

Having been an officer for a year, I've seen so many students struggling with their academic journey - from unfair policies to lack of support when they need it most. I wanted to step into this role to actually make a difference and be the advocate students deserve. I want to make academic policies clearer and fairer for everyone, bring more transparency to university processes, and tackle any barriers that are affecting your acadmic journey.

My priorities

Improve access to and expand the number of part-time and graduate employment opportunities for students.

Enchance the visibility and availability of on-campus student jobs by identifying existing roles and creating new opportunities.

Collaborate with university leadership, SU departments, and other internal stakeholders to shape proposals that promote student employment

Introduce a visible tuituon and accommodation payment tracking dashboard withing University platforms.

Advocate for the development of a clear, easily accessible ection in platforms like MyStudentRecord or Blackboard where students can view their tuition and accommodation fee status, upcoming payments, and outstanding balances.

Engage with relevant university leads, the fees and income department, and IT teams to explore technical feasibility and intergration possibilities for a dashboard feature.

Review PGT Course policies and structures with focus on:

  1. Clarity and communication of resit opporunities for modules
  2. Extention of appeal submisson timelines
  3. Alignment of dissertation resit timings with international students' vis constraints
  4. Transparency around dissertation resit availability across courses
  5. condensed lecture and seminar scheduling to support communiting and working students
  6. Minimising long gaps between classes to improve timetable efficiency

Develop a clear, accessible resource that helps students understand key academic policies like Senate Regulations, progession criteria, appeal rights, and timelines that impact their academic journey.

Tailored to different student categories such as undergraduate, postgraduate, distance learning, and others, with seperate sections to address their unique needs

Help create stronger connections between undergraduates, PGT, and PhD students within the same college.

This would encourge peer learning, mentorship, and help everyone feel more part of a shared academic community.

A big part of this is giving PGT and PhD students the chance to share their research and work in a way that's accessibile and inspiring for UG students.
