Contract Type            Temporary Casual

Salary                          £8.21 per hour

Hours                          2 hours per focus group, plus mandatory training

As part of our commitment to inclusivity and liberation, we are conducting a series of focus groups with minority ethnic students. These are designed to enable students to share their experiences relating to race, both positive and negative. This research will be used to develop a programme of work designed to address any obstacles to success for both current and future students who identify as minority ethnic at the University of Leicester, and will inform the development of the University’s Race Equality Strategy.

The purpose of this role is to facilitate student focus groups as part of a joint University of Leicester/Students’ Union research project on how our various minority ethnic student groups view their relationship with the University and wider educational community.

The focus group facilitator will be expected to a lead small group of 6-8 students through an open discussion, structured around a set of carefully pre-determined questions. Two facilitators will be present at each focus group session: one will lead the facilitation of the group, whilst the other runs the digital recorder and takes notes in case the recorder fails. The note-taker will act as observer and record major themes, ideas, comments and observations regarding group dynamics. The facilitator will be expected to be capable of undertaking either role as required.

Facilitators will also be expected to help with the recruitment of students to the focus groups

Mandatory training will be provided for the facilitators prior to the focus groups taking place. This training takes place on Friday 20 September.
