Have you ever wanted to try a sport where it is possible to reach the pinnacle of it in just a few months or years? Then kayak racing is for you! Our long term goal is to enter crews into the Devizes to Westmister ultra marathon race, the epitome of flatwater kayaking as a sport. I first sat in a kayak in September 2018 and was on the start line at Devizes less than 9 months later.
However, we also recognise that stupid training hours and icy mornings aren't for everyone and aim to be a 'get out what you put in' kind of club with reduced prices and lower expectations for members with less time and inclanation to give. We often find sports societies quite daunting to break into and want to combat this with our team.
As a new society, we can't promise a finish under Westminster bridge this April (someone also mentioned that the minor inconvience of a global pandemic might get in our way too), but we're already affiliating ourselves with coaches in Leicester who are interested in us attending local time trial events and inter- university competitions.
