This group is for members of the University of Leicester SEG Chapter. We are an official Society of Economic Geologists affiliated Student Chapter as of last year, and will be hosting regular events as a mineral-based society.
The Leicester University Society of Economic Geologist's (SEG) Chapter is an active, student run and industry sponsored academic society that hosts regular talks by external speakers from industry and academia, plus lectures from members of the geology department. We also provide a link to the global SEG organisation, which provides important networking links, skill-gaining opportunities and exclusive papers for any aspiring mining geologist.
As a student group, we have organised numerous field trips to places of interest to economic geology, with past trips including to Minffordd Quarry in North Wales (accompanied of course by a visit to an a subterranean trampoline in the Llechwedd Slate Caverns) and our amazing trip to Romania looking at Cu and Cu-Ag porphyry deposits, mud-logging techniques and hydrothermal springs with Transgex SA. In recent years, we have ran smaller day trips to Treak Cliff Cavern and Ecton Mine.
