♟️ Who We Are ♟️

Hello there! We are so glad to hear that you're interested in joining the Leicester Chess Society! This is the perfect place to learn, play and connect with chess fans across Leicestershire. We are the most active, vibrant and fastest growing chess club in Leicestershire, and we open our doors to anyone and everyone to come and enjoy chess :) You don't have to be a student to join, we are open to all members of the public!

🎟️ Membership & Accessibility 🎟️

How to Join: Simply purchase your membership through the SU website button on this page! We offer standard memberships for University of Leicester students, and an Associates Membership for members of the public.

Accessibility: All our regular meetups and lessons take place in the Sir Bob Burgess Building (LE2 6BF), which is fully wheelchair accessible with elevator access to the first floor. If you have any specific access requirements, please don't hesitate to reach out to our committee members ❤️

Casual Meetups

We meet every Thursday from 6-8pm in the Sir Bob Burgess Building, Room 0.02 for casual games.

Beginner Chess Lessons

Every Monday, 6pm-7pm | Sir Bob Burgess, Room 1.04

For those of you who are newer to chess, our Beginner Chess Lessons are the perfect way for you to learn chess!

We cover topics such as:

Beginner Opening Techniques
Basic Endgame Techniques
How to use your pawns
Introduction to tactics
Creating a plan in the middlegame

Intermediate & Advanced Workshops

Every Friday, 6-7pm | Sir Bob Burgess, Room 1.04

For those of you who are slightly more experienced at chess, why not try out our Intermediate & Advanced Chess Workshops?

How to take the initiative
The Psychology of Chess
Analyses of High-Level Games
