Flying GIAG Session

Flying GIAG Session

Flying Team

Sat 05 October 2024 09:00-17:00

The Gliding Centre Husbands Bosworth Airfield

Come give flying a try!

You will need to buy your ticket from our page as well as attend the compulsory induction meeting Friday 27th - see the events page for more information on this!

What is it?

Our Give-It-A-Go sessions are your opportunity to take to the skies and fly a glider at some of the cheapest rates possible. We will offer you one winch launch with the possibility of you paying for additional launches if you wish.

Where is it?

We fly from our home club, The Gliding Centre at Husbands Bosworth which is about 25 minutes away from campus. We will arrange all your transportation; however, if you would prefer to meet us there, then you are more than welcome to do this; just let us know!

When is it?

Saturday 5th October! We will meet on campus in the morning, travel to the airfield, fly during the day, and leave in the evening.

How much does it cost is it?

This session costs £20, which covers one winch launch in a glider with a qualified instructor. Subject to availability, if you wish to take additional launches, you can join as a paid member of the flying team and then pay for additional launches; these are expected to cost around £15 for a winch launch.

What about the weather?

As with all flying activities, weather plays a crucial role in whether we can take to the skies. Unfortunately, poor weather conditions such as strong winds or low visibility can mean that the session might need to be cancelled, sometimes at very late notice. If this happens, we’ll do our best to reschedule the session for another date, but you’ll receive a refund if that's not possible. Keep an eye on your emails and/or messages for any last-minute updates. We appreciate your understanding in case we need to make any changes.

Are there any restrictions on who can fly?

People over 6' 3" will probably not fit into a glider.

For safety, all gliders have an upper limit for their pilots. This means we unfortunately cannot take anyone flying if they weigh over 103kg, including the weight of clothing.

If you have accessibility requirements that you would like to talk to us about before your GIAG session, then please get in touch with us, and we will try and make any accommodations that we can to help you have an enjoyable flight!
