Chancellor's Distinguished Lecture
Through examples such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cost of Living crisis, and the Ukraine humanitarian response, Professor Sir Ian Diamond will explore the important role a national statistical institute (NSI) plays in informing government decision-making at the highest level. In doing so, he will showcase that the UK Statistics Authority strategy, Statistics for the Public Good, is at the heart of the radical, ambitious, sustainable and inclusive work the Office for National Statistics is doing.

Professor Sir Ian Diamond is the UK’s National Statistician. He was the chair of the Social Security Advisory Committee (SSAC) from August 2018 to August 2019. Sir Ian, who was knighted in 2013 for his services to social science and higher education, was the Principal and Vice Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen until 31 July 2018.

The event is open to students, staff and public. Click here to book your place.
