What is Museum Object-based Mindfulness Training? 

Museum Object-based Mindfulness Training is a six-week course that will teach you the foundational practices, concepts, and attitudes of mindfulness through engagement with a wonderful array of art and heritage objects.

You will also have the opportunity to discuss how mindfulness can be used to support your mental health at university with your peers, supported by a trained mindfulness facilitator!

 

What’s involved? 

Each weekly session will be between 1-hour to 1:15- hours long

As part of the evaluation, you will be invited to complete questionnaires before-during and-after the intervention. You will also be invited to complete one journal entry a week and to take part in a post-intervention interview (lasting approximately 45 minutes).

Students will be compensated for their role in supporting the evaluation of the intervention with a gift card (equivalent to 1.5 hours at national minimum wage rate).

 

Who can participate?

On-campus students at the University of Leicester who are 18-years or older and who do not have a clinically diagnosed mental health condition or are not aiming to address a recent trauma or loss. You will be expected to participate in at least five of the course’s six sessions.

 

When?

You can take part in one of the following courses starting on the following dates (2026):

Course One: 1st of September (Tuesdays 12-1pm)

Course Two: 3rd of September (Thursdays 5-6pm)

Course Three: 27th of October (Tuesdays 5-6pm)

Course Four: 28th of October (Wednesdays 12-1pm)

Course Five 29th of October (Thursdays 5-6pm)

 

 

Where? 

Sessions will take place in-person and on-campus. You will be informed of the exact location closer to the date.

 

Content warning 

The sessions discussions of mental health challenges as well as engagement with both museum objects and mindfulness practices which may cause emotional discomfort. A safeguarding protocol has been established to support participants.
