Contract: Fixed Term Contract until 31 July 2027

Under the direction of the Support and Representation Manager and working closely with the Senior Academic Representation Coordinators be responsible for the provision of an exceptional Academic Representatives system, taking a lead for overseeing our volunteer Course Representatives. 

Responsibilities Include: 

You will provide support for representatives across the University, including our volunteer Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught Course Reps and Postgraduate Research Reps this will include:

  • Provide direction and guidance to Academic Representatives to enable and empower reps within their role 
  • To support and develop structures to ensure representation at Student Staff Committees and other forums is as effective as possible
  • Facilitate the recruitment of Academic Representatives, including Course Reps at an undergraduate and Postgraduate level. 
  • Work to provide a tailored and empowering training programme for Academic Representatives, including working with the Data and Insight Team to provide regular briefings on key higher education issues
  • Ensure that effective systems are in place for timely action to be taken on academic issues and tracked through to completion, including liaising with relevant elected officers 
  • Maintain and develop relevant databases, capturing the participation of Academic Representatives in order to coordinate the reward of Reps
  • Co-ordinate the collation of feedback and changes made, in a timely manner, to aid in-year reporting of interactions and engagements. Through this, enable the communication of outcomes and successes through relevant channels (including social media, website, and central marketing channels) so students are aware of the positive changes made at a programme, Union and University level in a concise and relatable way
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships, working with key stakeholders including university staff
  • Help with the organisation of celebratory events relevant to representatives, alongside the wider Students’ Union team 
  • Update and maintain relevant sections of the Students’ Union website
  • In conjunction with the Research and Insight Team 
    • deliver termly briefings for relevant Representatives to prepare and empower them for relevant meetings
    • develop briefings on relevant issues related to the Higher Education sector and coordinate the effective response to relevant institutional, local and national consultations and proposals 
  • Plan and deliver a variety of events including: Academic Rep Training(s), Forums and Briefings, Student Leaders’ Conference, community building events and listening events.
