Who are Scrutiny Committee?

Scrutiny Committee are an independent, neutral body comprising of the Chair of Council, six elected student Scrutiny members and for some tasks, including reviewing the progress of your full-time elected Executive Officers, an Executive Officer from an external Students’ Union.

What does Scrutiny do?

Scrutiny Committee’s main role is to ensure that Student Council (and composite Networks) and the Ideas System are running smoothly, as well as setting some of the rules and regulations for our Elections. In addition they monitor and review the progress of the Executive (Full-time) and Part-time Officers through the operation of Scrutiny Panels.

Scrutiny also:
- Review Bye Laws (Students’ Union regulations)

- Promotion of Student Council and any associated policies

- Oversee complaints procedures against the Executive and Part-time Officers.

How do I become part of Scrutiny Committee?

Elections will take place in the first three weeks of the academic year, this is a simple process which we will guide and support you through each step of the process. More details will appear on this page in early September.
