Hi I'm Anri (they/them) and I'm a third year maths student.
I know that this sector is about more than just being eco-friendly, and I've been involved in Raising and Giving before by helping to organise Love Music Hate Homophobia with the LGBT+ Society the past two years. In my first year we raised £600 for Trade, a local LGBT+ sexual health charity; in second year we raised over £400 for Mermaids UK.
My main motivation for applying for this position is the "Sustainability" section. I'm really concerned about climate change and how wasteful western society is, and I want to see what cost effective, accessible, and inclusive solutions the University has to improve its carbon footprint and wastefulness. Things people overlook such as single use cups, plates and plastics provided by university caterers at events can make a huge difference. I want to know where the University sources its toilet roll, how much plastic is involved in transit, and what the carbon miles are like. I want to look into produce stocked by university food outlets, ensure there's varied options for people with dietary requirements, and see what can be done to reduce packaging and any unsustainable palm oil.
