Candidate for the position of Students' Union Representative (Commuter Student Network)

Jack NEWCOMBE

Having lived in Leicestershire for most of my life, I decided to study Law with Politics at Leicester because I knew living at home was the right thing for me. I was worried that I wouldn't find it as easy to settle into university life but, now in my second year, I've found it better than I thought.

Everyone should find university enjoyable, regardless of where you decide to study or live. To help make university better for commuter students, I will:

  • Fight for better transport arrangements for commuter students, whether it be bus pass discounts or car parking. We shouldn't have to worry about getting to university.
  • Create a student voice forum for commuter students to provide us with an opportunity to share our opinions on what the university could be doing better for us.
  • Start a first-year support workshop, so that students can meet each other and share their experiences, as well as talk with other commuter students about how to settle in and get the most out of university.
  • Push for more information at Open Days and online, to help commuter students understand what life is like living at home for university.
