AMY STELL

My name is Amy and I’m running for the position of lead union rep for informatics. I am a first year undergraduate Computer Science student and I am running for this position because I believe that students should have a right to say and influence both course structure as well as more general issues around the university.

As well as more general ideas about matters of the university, if elected I would aim to:

  • Improve communication between the university and students of particular degree streams about a range of topics, whether this is trying to find summer internships or job experience, or simply just more clear information about upcoming events within the department and university as a whole.
  • I also aim to make positive change regarding the equality within our department, to make female students and other minorities feel welcome and encouraged to undertake a Computer Science degree.
  • I would also like to increase options to continue to discover new interests along side the degree through cooperation between different departments, allowing people with a range of interests to explore this through potential projects offered throughout the duration of the course.

I think these aims will have a positive impact on the University of Leicester as a whole but also the Informatics department by creating a more diverse group of students and therefore allowing a larger range of interests and ideas to permeate into projects within the department.

Thank you for reading my manifesto and I hope to have your support in the upcoming election.
