I’m Amina and I am a final year law student. Throughout my time at Leicester Law school there has been a lot of support given to students. However, I feel there’s some things that still need to be improved. I will act as the first point of contact for students and will raise any issues regarding their course. I 've been part of the committee of the Islamic society, I have worked with and for people from all different backgrounds through pro bono work, charity work and law firms and have been a youth council representative though some of my school years. I feel I have the skill set to help make a difference. I myself am a minority, so I’d be a great activist in helping underrepresented students receive the support they need from any year and background. Here are a few issues I already think need to be raised:
- Cheaper textbook prices.
- Alternatively, e-Books and revision guide e-books on Blackboard.
- Reception to provide the office hours of tutors.
- Mental health support
- Clearer assignment/exam marking and guidance: to be provided sessions to go through papers with the marker.
- More Workshops and career support
- Support with training applications/vac schemes etc.
- More study spaces
- Security outside campus during night time hours.
These are only a few that I and some of my peers have brought up. I’ll do my best to help achieve these and any other issues students feel are important. I’ll make sure I relay the decisions made as soon as possible. I’ll also try to not only handle complaints but make sure the positive aspects of our Law School are maintained. I will be proactive in raising your concerns and ideas to the union and hope together we can make a difference.
Thank you for taking the time to read.
