These roles are all part of the SU’s Voice Team, each helping to support the team in different ways. Within the Voice Team, the Peer Mentoring Team delivers and supports and empowers over 500 Mentors to help new incoming students with the transition into University. The wider Voice Team provides students at the University of Leicester the opportunity to make change by supporting and developing a number of representation systems. We support students to engage with campaigns throughout the year and take the lead on ensuring that the voice of students is known clearly throughout the Union and University.

We provide support for over 900 student leaders. We do this by offering training opportunities and comprehensive advice, guidance and insight. We seek to empower them to support students and/or create change to improve the experience of students across the University.

We are looking to recruit three student staff to help us achieve these aims. Each role has a specialism/focus however, you will work together to deliver the wider activities of the Voice Team. This is likely to include helping with engagement activities such as stalls/Freshers Fair, attending Student Staff Committees and helping to deliver Meet your Mentor Events, Leicester 100 meetings and Award evenings.

The three roles (with the specialism/focus in brackets) are:

  • Student Voice Project Worker (Administration and Project Support)
    • Provide support to the Academic Representation Team to help empower our College, School and Course Representatives
    • Support the operation of the Students’ Union Democratic Structures, including the Leicester 100, Councils, Ideas System whilst helping the Executive Officers and Part-Time Officers in the projects they are working on.
  • Student Voice Project Worker (Communications and Social Media)
    • To enable the effective communication of the activities and outcomes from student leaders within the Voice Team. This will include Academic Reps, Part-Time Officers and Executive Officers, ensuring the completion of the feedback loop.
    • To coordinate the Social Media outputs of the Student Voice and Peer Mentoring Team.
  • Student Voice Project Worker (Peer Mentoring and Events)
    • To coordinate, in conjunction with the Peer Mentoring Coordinator, the Peer Mentoring Scheme, including Induction Talks, tracking of engagement, processing opt-outs, recruitment, training and ongoing support of Mentors and the coordination of the accreditation scheme.
    • Provided general support for the planning and delivery of events and campaigns, including Meet Your Mentor Events, Student Leaders Conference and Students’ Union Awards.

In addition, as a Student Staff member within the Union you will on an ad-hoc basis be invited to help out with additional Students’ Union Projects, this will include at times covering the Students’ Union Reception Desk.

We are seeking individuals with exceptional communication and administration skills who have a keen eye for detail. You will ideally have a good knowledge of either Peer Mentoring/representational structures and be able to effectively liaise with a wide variety of students.

If you have any questions regarding the role, please get in touch with Ian Bruce at irb2@le.ac.uk.

Interviews will take place in the week commencing 2 June either on Teams or in-person. Full training for the role will be provided.
