The survey and the poll I created are now available for you to express your thoughts on certain topics. The poll is located next to "Updates", while the survey can be found at: https://www.leicesterunion.com/surveys/gfc/. However, if you have any other concerns, feel free to email me (ngp6@student.le.ac.uk).
Hello everyone,
I hope you are doing well and having a wonderful holiday so far!
As many of you already know, I am one of your course representatives, and as such, I wanted to share with you what has been done so far and ask for your opinion, as it is essential.
The email will cover:
- A survey and a poll, which are available for you to express your opinion
- Update on matters raised during the first Student-Staff Committee.
- News about our university and course
The survey and the poll are now open!
I would like to hear your opinion regarding our course and your experience at the University of Leicester so far. Please, have a go at the survey (10-15min) and the poll (less than 1 min). Both of them are anonymous and expire on the 30th of January so that you can complete them after the exams if you feel busy at the moment. The results will be presented in the next Student-Staff Committee. You can also write me an email if you want to share something personal. Your confidentiality will always be kept, which means that I won’t share your details with the staff!

Issues raised during 1st Student-Staff Committee:
- The first semester’s assessments are all weighted 100% and will happen during the exam period (in 1 week).
- International students find it challenging to adjust to the IT systems that the university uses (Outlook, MyUoL, Blackboard, etc.)
What happened with those matters at the second SSC in November?
- The staff’s chair informed me that programme leaders could change the assessment structure at least one year before the beginning of the course. This issue is handled for the new degrees. As for the clustered exams, staff told me they would attempt to speak with timetabling personnel to try and space out the exams, if possible.
- Regarding IT systems, I was ensured that staff would consider setting up an induction lecture for second-year international students that explains IT systems.
Enquires from staff:
Please, wear your masks in closed spaces like lecture theatres, seminar rooms, the Info hub, the library, etc.!
Staff have the right to require you to wear masks and leave a teaching session if you don’t comply!
News from previous meetings:
- Student Information Services and Library Services have merged into one team. There are two inquiries: one in the Percy Gee and one in reception in the library. These are for queries on ID cards, Visas, fees, the library etc. https://le.ac.uk/library/using/student-library-services.
- Have a look at the “Get involved campaign” on the following web page: https://le.ac.uk/library/get-involved. It covers reading for pleasure, becoming a library champion, health and wellbeing and the “represent campaign”.
- Academic Skills centre – Ground floor of the library and online. Help with study skills, academic writing, finding info and referencing.
- You can borrow DVDs from the third floor of the library. For those who don’t have a DVD player, the library can loan such overnight.
