About Us:
Here at Leicester University Cycling Team we are a group of likeminded riders who enjoy riding, racing and socialising together. We are looking to grow our team on and off the bike, creating an inclusive club that everyone can be a part of with regular group rides, socials and trips away.
Riders of any experience with any bike are welcome! And if you don't have a bike, contact us and we might be able to help.
Riding:
We offer organised rides on Monday's, Wednesday's and Saturday's. On Monday's and Friday's we have sessions on a closed cycling circuit, away from traffic, at New College. These are ideal for anything from gaining confidence riding in a group to running training sessions. This year, on Wednesday's we have two rides going out at different paces. The faster group will often develop into a chaingang. On Saturday's we run longer cafe rides. Our rides usually start from Victoria Park between the Attenborough Building and Charles Wilson Building. We are also going to start visits to Derby velodrome for people of all abilties.
Racing
Here at LUCT we also want to support those who wish to race. Currently we enter riders into BUCS hill climb, timetrials and road race. Our members also race in British Cycling cyclocross races as well as crits and road races regionlly, nationally, and internationally. As a club we support and encourage riders who want to race or get into racing, however, racing is not a requirement of riding in the club!
For riders looking to get into racing for the first time cyclocross is a really accessible and as a team we want to be able to help as many people get into racing as possible. A cyclocross season generally runs from September to February and there are plenty of local races that are suitable for someone just getting into it, as well as more experienced racers.
Social:
Being part of LUCT isn't all about cycling though! We also have a very strong social scene. There are plenty of drinking and non-drinking socials throughout the year. Like most sports societies we hold socials on Wednesday nights after training and then meet up with everyone else in the O2 later on. We also have an alumni Christmas dinner as well as a summer garden party and awards evening.
As well as this we organise trips away, for example we have prieviously gone on a trip to the Yorkshire Dales, backpacking in the Peak District and on a trip to watch the world championships.
Joining a sports club really makes your uni experience and if you have a passion for cycling, or are looking to get a bit more involved look no further than LUCT.
