Quadball

Want to give Quadball a go? We train 2-4pm every Wednesday and most Saturdays behind the Attenborough Tower in Victoria Park 2-4pm every Wednesday and most Saturdays (check our social media for changed training times and locations), so feel free to come along and give it a try at any time! Studded boots recommended but not required.

Quadball is a fast-paced, full-contact sport best described as a mix of rugby, handball and dodgeball, inspired by the sport in Harry Potter, though the community has worked to establish its own identity seperate from this. As such, there was a rebranding in 2022 with an official name change to Quadball. It’s played on the ground and is amazingly unique, not just for the game mechanics but also for its inclusivity of all gender identities. Fiercely competitive and incredibly entertaining, there’s something for everyone, so come along and give it a go!

QUADBALL IN THE UK

As a player of a fast growing and innovative sport, you will have the chance to compete across the country against other university teams and play alongside community teams.

The UK Quadball scene is host to many exciting opportunities to meet members from across the diverse and growing Quadball Community. Mercenary Tournaments are a common event on the Quadball Calendar, with members of the Leicester Thestrals Quadball Club attending and leading teams at tournaments such as Thunderground, and Valentines Cup, as well as Leicester’s own tournament, Lightning Cup!

OUR SOCIETY

Established in 2012, we pride ourselves on having played in the first official Quadball match in the UK, Leicester Lovegoods (as we were then) against Keele Squirrels. Since then, we have participated in tournaments across the country, winning the Nightmarish Tournament in Nottingham, placing 5th at Northern Cup 2020 and 3rd in the British Quadball Cup University League in 2022. Also, we competed at the 2015 European Quadball Cup where we took home first place of the second division – placing 17th in Europe.

But our society is about far more than just competitive sport, providing a variety of social events, including themed bar crawls, bowling, and end of term Balls! We also head out to schools, communities and organisations to run tailored sessions for people outside of the university, introducing them to the sport, and generally encouring fitness and wellbeing.

We are also one of the most inclusive societies for LGBTQ+, open to trans* and non-binary players as part of the world’s most gender-inclusive sport.

EAST MIDLANDS VIPERS QUADBALL CLUB

We have been collaborating with the local community team, East Midlands Vipers, since 2022. We host regular joint trainings (and socials) where we are able to pool our knowledge and resources to improve both teams.

In 2023 we were unable to attend official tournaments, however, some of our members were able to play with the Vipers at the British Quadball Cup, who placed 10th in the Community League.
