Sam Walter, Education Officer 2024/25    Hi I'm Sam, your Education Officer for 2024/25 About Me Course:  I'm pursuing Master's in Advanced Computer science with placement  Hometown:  I'm from Baroor, A beautiful village in Bidar district of Karnataka, India. However, I have lived in Hyderabad, Telangana since my childhood, where i have completed my schooling and undergraduate studies.  How do you think your friends best describe you? My friends would likely descirbe me as a leader with strong sense of honesty and a great sense of humor. They appriciate my ability to bring laughter and fun to our gatherings with sarcasm and wit. They also see me as a motivated and focused individual who can inspire and drive others towards their goals.    What inspired you to become an Executive Officer? Though I am a computer science student, I have always been interested in politics and Nationalism. My passion for education and the respect I have for its transformative power inspired me to pursue the role of an education officer. This drive to make a positive impact in the field of education ultimately led me to aspire to become an executive officer.

 

What can you offer students in your role? Student Representation: Representing their  interests and needs in policy decisions and educational reforms.  Quality Education: Ensuring they receive a high-standard, comprehensive education that prepares them for future challenges. Innovative Learning Environments: Implementing modern teaching methods and technologies to enhance their learning experiences.  Extracurricular Opportunities: Encouraging participation in activities that foster personal growth, leadership skills, and community engagement.    What is the most important change you want to make this year? The most important change I want to make this year is to significantly increase student awareness and utilization of the numerous resources provided by the university. To achieve this, I plan to:  Leverage Social Media: Utilize social media platforms to reach a wider audience, share information, and engage with students about these resources.  Interactive Workshops: Conduct workshops  and interactive sessions that guide students on how to effectively use these resources for their academic and personal development.    Hobbies and Interests What do you like doing in your spare time?  In my spare time, I enjoy calling my family, especially my mother, and having long chats with her. I also like spending time on social media, watching reels and keeping up with the latest trends and hit the gym regularly to stay fit and healthy.  Favourite Film/Series  My favorite film/series is "Indra Sena Reddy." I enjoy its engaging storyline, strong characters, and the cultural aspects it portrays. It’s a film/series that resonates with me deeply and keeps me entertained every time I watch it.  Favourite Song/s Adhento Gaani Vunnapaatuga - A song from Movie Jersey, Neekem Kaavaalo Cheppu - A song from Yentavadu Gaani, Arere Aakasham - A Song from Colour Photo, Mudu Rangula Jenda Patti - A regional pollitical song

 

 

Priority 1 - Reintroduction of safety net

• PVC Education is already committing to uncapped resits and am lobbying him for a reintroduction of sorts given the challenges of the new environment.

 

Priority 2 - Ignite Accessibility

• More student voice input through forums, Q&As and response units.

• Tracking of Personal Tutor engagement.

• Expanding Laptop Loan scheme in the library.

• Sit on ignite oversight group which meets fortnightly and overlooks all strands that implement ignite, can feed in to change here

• Pushing for more accessible and clear comms around ignite
