Image of AnneMarie Deeb, Education Officer 2022/23    About me. Hi! I am AnneMarie and I’m your Education Officer for 2022/23. Course: MSc Forensic Science and Criminal Justice and MSc Criminology. Hometown: Syracuse, New York. How do you think your friends and family would describe you? I would like to think they would describe me as bubbly and adventurous with a big heart.    What inspired you to become an Executive Officer? I first came to the university as a study abroad student and fell in love with the uni, my course, the city, and the people. As a master's student I found my course exciting and rewarding. Then the pandemic took away so much from the student experience. I want to help return students to a smooth and enjoyable academic experience while continuing to reward them for their accomplishments.

What you can offer students in your role: I want to help make your education at Leicester the best it can be. I am here to listen, support and help make change. Contact me at    What is the most important change you want to make this year? I want to work towards a compassionate curriculum that rewards and supports our students that doesn't just stop with the curriculum, it extends into all area's academia including physical spaces. I will continue to work with the university on Assessment and Mitigating Circumstances, work to provide high quality modules with a strong curriculum, improve your academic spaces and recognize student needs and successes.    Hobbies and Interests: When I am not working you can find me traveling, playing volleyball, or hanging out with my cat. Favorite Book: I am very into Colleen Hoover right now and loved her book November 9th. Favorite Song: Good days by Sza Series: Taskmaster, Love Island and River Monsters

Priority 1 - Reintroduction of safety net

• PVC Education is already committing to uncapped resits and am lobbying him for a reintroduction of sorts given the challenges of the new environment.

Priority 2 - Ignite Accessibility

• More student voice input through forums, Q&As and response units.

• Tracking of Personal Tutor engagement.

• Expanding Laptop Loan scheme in the library.

• Sit on ignite oversight group which meets fortnightly and overlooks all strands that implement ignite, can feed in to change here

• Pushing for more accessible and clear comms around ignite

Summer 2022

•I have worked with the university and have had my full input on how your assessments will be run this academic year. I am very pleased with how this has turned out.

•I have worked with the university to update the Mitigating Circumstances policy and add things like bereavement of a close person, sexual violence, racial trauma and more to the no evidence list. We have also added Self-Certification which will allow students extra time on assessments without needing evidence or using the mitigating circumstances portal.

•Academic Reps will now be receiving merchandise and gifts for their roles!

•I have been helping with new officer inductions and trainings, so we are all ready for this year!

•I have been working on the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) with Rhiannon. The Office For Students asks for a submission analysing student trends and feelings regarding their education.

•Preparing for Freshers!
