Ken Edwards Lecture Theatre 1

Societal expectations and gender roles play a big part in the formation of one’s self, how they should behave, what is expected of them, and how vulnerable they are allowed to be – and all these structural issues can have a long term damaging effect to different communities.

Exploring these narratives, in the talk we will look to understand what black manhood is, in comparison to white masculinity, how masculinity can disproportionately affect the black community, and the idea of vulnerability in black men.
