My Queerness My Blackness
Wed 23 October 2019 18:00-20:00
Peter Williams Lecture Theatre, Fielding Johnson Building South Wing
“Intersectionality is a metaphor for understanding the ways that multiple forms of inequalities or disadvantages sometimes compound themselves and create obstacles that often are not understood…” Kymberly Crenshaw
The intersecting identities between the LGBT+ and the black community are not very often well represented, understood and are more often than not forgotten. This event, with keynote speaker Munroe Bergdorf, a British trans model and activist, will open a discussion on the taboos existing about being queer in the black community, the racial injustices faced within the LGBT+ community, and the importance of Queer Black Voices in the fight for equality.
