Hey everyone! I hope exams/deadlines are going well for you all. We know how stressful this time can be, so we are running our Destress campaign again on campus. This will be from Tuesday 7 May to Friday 24 May this month. We have the therapy dogs back in, free fruit and a bouncy castle lined up for you, so have a look at the calendar here and get involved.

We also wanted to get your feedback on how exam season has been handled by your department, and share this with the University. This could range from having three exams in one day causing you stress, scheduling of Saturday exams, exams that have not reflected the content of teaching this year and anything else that needs changing within your department. The survey will be available soon, so keep an eye on our social media for more details.

I also wanted to formally announce that I have taken up the role of Acting President for the remainder of the academic year, as Amy Moran has moved on from the Students’ Union. A huge thank you to Amy for all her amazing work with Union Council, #MeTooOnCampus and tackling period poverty in Leicester with the Red Box Project.

I look forward to working for you all as your President. We will have a brand new Executive Officer team, with amazing and fresh ideas who officially start on Monday 1 July. It is also really exciting that I am on the interview panel to hire our new President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leicester, following the departure of Paul Boyle, so drop me a message if you want to feed into that. Following all the noisy building works and current redevelopment, you will all be pleased to know that we will be opening the new Percy Gee Building next academic year too! Exciting times ahead.

In the meantime, I am currently wrapping up different projects that come under the remit of Wellbeing Officer, particularly the Drug Harm Reduction: Take Control campaign, which I am working on with Ben Bennett and Korrie Ford. The aim of the campaign is to empower students to take control of their drug consumption and educate everyone on safe drug use. We will also be signposting to relevant support services so victims of drug abuse get the relevant support needed. Please go to our website for updates surrounding the campaign.
