~ Squads ~

The University of Leicester Boat Club (ULBC) is a competitive rowing club for athletes of all abilities. EVERYONE is welcome! Regular training sessions and weekly socials that cater to ALL!

We are one of the largest mixed societies at the university, and every year we welcome both experienced and novice rowers to join our fun and friendly club. Below are the three main ways you can get involved with our huge mix of activities...

Novice members

  • Caters to athletes who have NEVER rowed before.
  • Open to EVERYONE regardless of fitness or ability.
  • We guide you through your novice year, starting with the basics until you are race ready!
  • One of the CHEAPEST learn to 'Learn to Row' courses in the country, membership fees go directly back to funding YOU!
  • Make lots of friends and join in on socials and land training with seniors.
  • Can do as much or as little as you want!

Senior members

  • Caters to those who already have rowing experience, with novices being able to graduate into the senior squad.
  • A COMPETITIVE and SUPPORTIVE squad.
  • Huge technical and physical gains.
  • International quality boats with access to Concept2 blades, ergs, and new bought AveRowing boats
  • Join Leicester Rowing Club as a senior member - https://www.leicester-rowing.co.uk/
  • Feel free to DM the club instagram or email our senior captain

Casual members

  • So that to cater for everyone, we also offer a dynamic membership for more casual members who may only want to stay involved with our land training. This means you'll still get to join our weekly circuits, have access to erg slots and generally stay involved with the other squads without the access to training on the water in crews.

Coxing

  • No experience needed!

  • Access to both novice and senior squad training, YOU choose what you do!
  • Can be competitive or casual
  • Access to lifejackets, coxorbs and microphones!
  • Unsure what coxing is? The cox is one of the most important members of the boat as they steer and support the rowers!

For any inquires, you can reach our Cox Captain at ljp6@student.le.ac.uk

Social

  • Weekly themed socials to the O2 (club on campus)
  • Regular sober socials
  • Collaborations with other societies and DMU!
  • Winter and summer balls
  • There's something for everyone!

You’ll find us at fresher’s fair, and throughout the two weeks of freshers-fortnight we hold loads of events including the Fresher’s T-shirt Bar Crawl (over 120 people attended last year) and free rowing taster sessions. Experienced rowers can join our seniors for training on the first weekend of term, 1st/2nd October, and see how you like it. Like our Facebook page, and follow us on intsagram (@UOLBC) to stay updated!

Make the most of your university experience, meet lifelong friends, and have something to brag about when you visit home - join this iconic university sport!
