Currently, our campus has a lot of cigarette butt litter. While the university shouldn't actively promote smoking, the reality is that people who smoke will continue to do so. Without enough accessible, wall-mounted disposal units in high-traffic outdoor areas, these filters, which are essentially single-use plastics, are constantly thrown on the floor, creating both an eyesore and an environmental hazard.
Installing more dedicated cigarette bins provides the necessary infrastructure to manage this waste responsibly. This simple step will drastically reduce visible litter, prevent toxic micro-plastics and save the estates team time currently spent sweeping up tiny filters. Providing the right bins doesn't encourage the habit, it simply protects our local environment and keeps the campus clean.
