A big welcome to all Distance Learning Students for the 25/26 academic year!
Whether you're campus or a distance learner, the Students’ Union is a space that seeks to empower all students.
Here's some words from your Distance Learning Officer, Natalie:
"I started studying for my undergraduate degree as a full-time distance student in February 2022, after an almost 15-year break from formal study.
During my first module a tutor told us all “the first bit is the hardest”, and they were right.
Whether you’re starting an undergraduate or postgraduate course, full time or part time, the first few months are the biggest adjustment. From learning how the modules work, to where the resources are, to interacting with peers, to learning how studying around other commitments works best for you; it’s a learning curve that all distance students experience.
Distance learning can tend to be a solo experience and has the potential to feel isolating at times and while this works for some people, it doesn’t for everyone. The Students’ Union website has lots of information about events, societies and potential for interacting with other distance learners, peers from your school, or other students with similar interests. One of the SU officers, your school rep, or staff members may also send you information about events or ways to get involved.
As the Distance Learning Officer for 25/26 I hope to keep improving the experience for all distance learners, and you can read more about my projects here. If you have ideas you’d like to share, feedback about ongoing projects, or any questions at all – you can email me at: su-dlofficer@leicester.ac.uk."
