Do you like to play board games? If the answer to that question is 'yes', then the Games Society is for you! If the answer is 'I don't know', or 'maybe', then come along anyway and give it a go! No experience of any kind is neccesary, and newcomers are always welcome.
We play any and every game we can get our hands on, such as tabletop roleplaying games, collectible card games, war games and board games. Do we not have a game that you own/are interested in? Bring it along, or suggest it to us! We buy new games in every year and are always on the lookout for what to get next.
As well as regular weekly and monthly meetings, we have a packed social calendar; highlights of the year include the Geek Pub Quiz, tournaments, megagames, as well as Student Nationals, a gaming tournament which involves games societies from across the UK.
Our meetings run in and out of term time, so make sure to check our Facebook page for more details.

When does Games Society meet?
Mondays from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm and Wednesdays from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. We also have Gaming Weekends once a month at the end of the month from 9:00 am to 5 pm.
What sort of games do you play?
We play tabletop games, including board games, card games, tabletop RPGs and wargames.
I am new to this. What do I do?
Our meetings are casual. You can walk in and find a group to play with. There are usually a number of groups and games running at a time, and we are very welcoming to newcomers.
Do I need to bring anything to meetings?
No. We have a large stock of games which we bring into meetings if you do not have anything to bring, or do not wish to. However, if there are games that you do want to bring and play, that is allowed as long as the game does not break our guidelines.
I play wargames, but do not have any terrain. What do I do?
We thankfully have terrain in stock! If you wish to use it, let us know on our Facebook group (Leicester Sabres) so we can take it out for you in advance.
I play card games. Do I need to bring my own?
Yes. Especially with the current state of affairs, sharing cards is ill-advised. We are working on a number of work-arounds (especially digital ones), so stay tuned!
I am in need of miniatures. Do you have any?
We do not have any communal miniatures or figures at the moment, so you will need to bring your own.
I want to find an TTRPG group. How can I do this?
Our Facebook group (Leicester Sabres) is a place where you can get updates, and also set up games and campaigns. Feel free to make a post mentioning that you want to join a game, or are interested in starting one!
How are you dealing with Covid-19?
Depending on the University’s guidance, we may or may not be hosting in-person meetings. If in-person meetings are a no-go, we have set up a Discord for members to play and attend online meetings instead. If in-person meetings are allowed, we may need to enforce a max limit on how many people can attend in-person meetings per day so proper safety measures can be kept. More information will be provided once we have more detailed instructions.
Tickets are split up by days. Why is this the case?
Some may only be able to attend one day out of the week, so we have allowed for a discount for those who cannot make both days. This also allows for us to calculate how many members we can expect to attend on certain days, to make sure we are properly prepped and Covid compliant.
Are you still running events?
Yes! Many events (especially for the fall semester) will be scaled down or online, but we are still running events such as tournaments, collaborations with other societies, megagames, and…of course…Nationals! We will let you know if details change, or government guidance changes.
Do you play Monopoly?
Ah, of course; the game to end all games. Breaker of Families, Ender of Friendships...
We do not speak that name here.
