We are a society affiliated with Global Brigades, a nonprofit organisation that empowers communities to meet their health and economic goals through university volunteers and local teams. We are going to be a part of a legal team that will be assisting in Honduras.
According to the World Justice Project, over 5 billion people worldwide lack access to justice
Over 1 billion people cannot obtain justice for everyday problems
Prevents people from obtaining legal assistance
Limit their ability to seek redress for legal issues or to enforce
If we reach our fundraising goal, then we will also get the opportunity to travel abroad to Honduras, work alongside lawyers, and get real-life experience. The money we will be raising supports all necessary costs for the program implementation, such as case follow-ups, technical visits, local lawyers, and translators.
We will be assisting in family law and domestic violence cases alongside lawyers. It will be a week of different activities, such as visiting the nearest town, mooting, legal clinic work, learning about their culture, and practicing in hypothetical cases!
Anyone! It is open to all.
Of course not! As we are going away for a week together, we would love the opportunity to get to know each other. Therefore, throughout the term, we will be meeting for social nights to get to know one another before we travel, as well as plan and carry out fundraising events. Keep an eye on our Instagram (@leilegalempowermentsociety) and this page to stay up-to-date with upcoming meetings and fundraising initiatives.
